Remix, Cut ‘n’ Paste, Mash-Up and Edit

As I navigated the winding country lanes on my way to the M5 from Minehead, where I'd been playing the Sunday night 1.00am-3.00am closing slot / graveyard shift at the inaugural ‘House Of Fun’ weekender, I was pleased to discover that there was a programme on the radio about the JFK assassination 48 years ago in 1963. Always a subject of fascination, this would help me whittle away half an hour of journey time as I weaved onwards towards the motorway.

Having become a child star, due to her appearances in ‘Lassie Come Home’ (1943) and the following year’s ‘National Velvet’ (her co-stars being a dog and a horse respectively), her reputation was further enhanced via roles in films including ‘Little Women’ (1949), ‘Father Of The Bride’ (1950), ‘A Place In The Sun’ (1951) and ‘Giant’ (1956), where she appeared alongside James Dean and Rock Hudson.

Five Super Soul Songs From Super Bad Brad

Soul is not something you acquire, it’s something you either have or you don’t, and sometimes you can find it in the most unlikely people.

It’s over a decade now since I was first introduced to the truly extraordinary talent that is Super Bad Brad, via Dermot Doran, whose father, Eamon Doran, founded the famous pubs in Dublin and NYC, which bear his name. Dermot had run off some VHS copies of Brad, who he’d got to know over in the US, singing ‘Ben’ and ‘You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine’, in order to amaze and entertain his friends. One of these tapes becoming essential viewing in our household, and something we’ve shared with numerous appreciative visitors down the years.
