Confused, Misused And In The Dark

The issue of racism is well and truly back in the news following recent events - the Stephen Lawrence trial, the murder of Anuj Bidve, an Indian student in Salford, the ‘My Tram Experience’ YouTube clip, the Suffolk ‘gollywog in the window’ case, the Diane Abbott ‘divide and rule’ tweet, and, of course, a whole series of football related incidents, which have blown-up to a level that few could have envisaged when I made my ‘Racism In English Football’ post just a few months ago, at the end of October

Remix, Cut ‘n’ Paste, Mash-Up and Edit

As I navigated the winding country lanes on my way to the M5 from Minehead, where I'd been playing the Sunday night 1.00am-3.00am closing slot / graveyard shift at the inaugural ‘House Of Fun’ weekender, I was pleased to discover that there was a programme on the radio about the JFK assassination 48 years ago in 1963. Always a subject of fascination, this would help me whittle away half an hour of journey time as I weaved onwards towards the motorway.

Reading The Watchmen

24 years after it was first recommended to me by my mate Kermit, I’ve finally read ‘Watchmen’, the 1987 graphic novel by the British pairing of writer Alan Moore and illustrator Dave Gibbons. I knew it was going to be something special, so, suffice to say, its right up there for me, a really substantial piece of work with its powerful cast of archetypal characters - take a bow Rorschach, Dr Manhattan, Ozymandias, Nite Owl II, Silk Spectre II, The Comedian, Silk Spectre, Nite Owl and all those in supporting roles who collectively served to knit together what’s been for me, in these past few weeks, an ever-unravelling gift that keeps on giving.

All Along The Watchmen

It’s funny on how one thing can lead to another – those seemingly unrelated connections I’ve previously mentioned colliding to reveal exciting new avenues of exploration. Following on from my recent ‘Getting On My Dylan’ post (http://www.gregwilson.co.uk/2011/06/getting-my-dylan-on/) I finally got around to watching the film adaptation of the classic Alan Moore / Dave Gibbons graphic novel, ‘Watchmen’.

Killer Album‏

This month marks a big anniversary for me – it’s exactly twenty years since the crew I worked so closely with for over five years, as producer, manager and all round collaborator, saw their debut LP, the ‘Killer Album’, released via EMI.
